Shopping Centre REDI – Customer and material flows planning

Background

The shopping centre REDI is in Kalastama, Helsinki and its developer is Finnish company SRV Construction Ltd. REDI will be opened in autumn 2018 and is expected to reach 12 million visitors yearly. EP-Logistics has earlier been involved in developing retail logistics in several large shopping centres and department stores for example in shopping centres Kamppi, Itis and Kluuvi (in Helsinki), Sello and Iso Omena (in Espoo), Mylly (in Raisio) and Ratina (in Tampere).

Assignment and results

The assignment given to EP-Logistics in the planning phase contained the planning of customer and material flows. Customer flows were studied in cooperation with SRV by simulation. The users of metro and other public transport, bicycle and pedestrian traffic and motorists were taken into account in the study. Additionally, the loading areas and maintenance routes for approximately 200 stores were defined.

  • The required lift and escalator capacity was determined
  • Supplementary information about vehicle and customer flows was gained for further planning
